Pre-Kindergarten

At East Elementary School, our dedicated and Certified Teachers deliver a rich and engaging learning environment. The goal of our programming is to provide children with an environment in which they work on independence and social skills to take with them into Kindergarten and beyond. Our focus is helping children to develop a lifelong love of learning and we do this through a variety of educational themes in our play-based program.

Each classroom has 1 Certified Teacher and a minimum of 2 Educational Assistants. Parent Volunteers are welcome to help out if they choose to but it is not required.

PROGRAM HOURS:

Our PK program runs from Mid- September to mid-June. We follow the Black Gold School calendar for PD Days & Holidays.

ATTENDING AS A M/M OR ELL STUDENT

We welcome children with mild to moderate (M/M) developmental delays or english language learners (ELL) who would benefit from the collaboration of services to address their developmental needs. M/M and ELL students attend 4 half-days per week (either AM or PM) and must be turning 4 by December 31st that school year.

Children must be toilet-trained.

**May only attend a Black Gold Pre-K program as a M/M or ELL student for one year.

Yearly Fee: $80

ATTENDING AS A P.U.F. STUDENT

We welcome children with special needs and/or severe developmental delays who would benefit from the collaboration of services to address their developmental needs. Program Unit Funded Students (PUF) attend either 3 or 4 half-days per week (either AM or PM) depending on their age. Services that may be provided in the classroom through consultations with the Teacher and the child’s family are: Speech & Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or Behavioural Intervention Support. 

PUF students may begin Pre-K as young as 2 ½ yrs old to a maximum age of 4 yrs – 8 mths.

They may attend Pre-K for 1 or 2 years, depending on the age when they began.  3 yr olds may attend for 2 years, 4 yr olds will attend 1 year.  

Children do not need to be toilet-trained.

Yearly Fee: $60/yr for 3 yr olds attending 3 days/wk

      $80/yr for 4 yr olds attending 4 days/wk

While each Pre-K Teacher offers their own creative take on the program, a regular day typically includes:

As a play-based program we believe children learn best by exploration and participation in the world around them. Our program is immersed with Fine and Gross Motor Activities, Early Literacy Skills, Early Math Skills, Art Activities, Stories, Songs, Dance and more. Throughout the year we also have special fun days, theme days and party days.
