Our Program:

Children learn by doing and play is their work. Kindergarten programs not only help prepare children for Grade One, but also set a foundation for later school success. Children learn how to interact with others and to see themselves as individuals and learners.

East Elementary Kindergarten follows the Alberta Education’s Kindergarten Statement to provide learner expectations in seven areas:

All Kindergarten parents are welcome to become involved in our School Council & Parent Association.

When Is My Child Eligible To Attend Kindergarten?
Children may begin Kindergarten at East Elementary in September if they are 5 years old as of December 31st of the respective school year.

What Are The Class Times?
Full-Day Kindergarten follows East’s Bell Schedule and class times are:
M/W & Occasional Fridays (8:29 am – 3 pm) or
T/TH & Occasional Fridays (8:29 am – 3 pm)

How Do I Register My Child?
Registration for the upcoming school year begins in January, please contact the school office for the opening date.

At East Elementary School we offer a Full-Day (part-time) Kindergarten program. Programs offered depend upon sufficient enrolment, space and resources.

Supporting documentation (copy of birth certificate, and proof of residency) is required at the school when registering your child.

What happens after I’ve registered for Kindergarten?
We hold an annual Kindergarten Parent Info Night, you will be notified ahead of time regarding the date.

Before the beginning of the school year, your child’s Kindergarten Teacher will contact you about the start of the year and any other specific information in relation to their classroom. Please contact the school office or our Kindergarten Teachers if you have any further questions.

Is Transportation Provided for Kindergarten?

Kindergarten students follow the regular Black Gold Regional Transportation policy. Full-Day Kindergarten students may be bussed on regular routes. There are some Leduc childcare providers who do provide transportation. Please call Black Gold at 780-955-6034 for more information and to arrange transportation or visit their website.

Field Trips:In Kindergarten we are happy to participate in many exciting Field Trip learning opportunities throughout the year. In the past these have included: Safety City, the Edmonton Zoo, Devonian Gardens and more!

Parent Involvement:
We encourage parent participation in our Kindergarten program. Volunteer parents help in many ways including: interacting with small groups of students, prepping class materials and supervising in-class presentations or Field Trips. Your involvement is greatly appreciated!
