    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to East, we missed you! First, I would like to thank all of the students, staff, and parents for their great work in the first few days of school this year.  The students did a fantastic job of following the new instructions and protocols in the school. When I visit the classes, I can see that the staff is working with all of our students to go over the rules and how we can all work together to ensure that our school is as safe as possible.  I am sure we will encounter some unknown situations or challenges during the year, and we may even make some mistakes, so feel free to contact me if you have any concerns.

This school year will be unlike any previous year at East Elementary. During the first week of September, our staff engaged in some training focused on creating a positive school re-entry environment which was provided by the North American Center for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response (NACTATR).  There was a great deal of good information in this course that helped prepare our staff for supporting the students. One of the key points that I took from the training is that our current situation is not the “new normal”. Eventually, the pandemic will end and we will return to our same way of life we had previously to 2020. I found hope in this statement and I look forward to the days when we can give your child a hug when they walk in the school, walk through the halls without a mask, and not worry about how close we stand to each other.  My message to all of you is that this situation is only temporary, remember to keep your spirits up, and we will all get through this together.

    See you soon!
