Building and Learning
September is over and I must say that we had a fantastic start to our school year at East. I would especially like to recognize our Grade 6 class. Their leadership and initiative at role-modeling positive behaviors for all of our students, certainly set the tone this year. Well done Grade 6!
In other news, construction is moving along on our new portable and delivery is expected within the next week or two. We anticipate it will take a number of weeks for the portable to be set up once it is here and then Ms. Kruse’s grade 5 class will be in their beautiful new classroom.
During our professional development days this year our teaching staff will be embarking on a journey of mathematical learning. East Elementary partnered with three other schools (New Humble, Calmar Elementary, and Thorsby Elementary) and Dr. Elaine Simmt, who is a Professor Secondary of (Mathematics) Education and Associate Dean Graduate Studies & Director M.Ed. in Educational Studies at the University of Alberta. Dr. Simmt and her team will be joining us during our professional development days to explore current math instruction research and techniques, with the goal of improving student math learning.
Have a wonderful October and a Happy Thanksgiving!
