East Elementary students and staff held our Remembrance Day Ceremony this morning. We were honored to have OS Dane Pageau and SGT Dwayne McKenzie join us to speak to the kids about both Canada’s Military history, with a focus on the battle fought at Passchendaele, and Canada’s peacekeeping legacy, with specific examples from Afghanistan. The Grade 6 class recited John McRae’s In Flanders Fields, numerous students presented poems, and the grades 4/5 and 5 class sang ‘Soldiers Cry’ by Roland Majeau, a hauntingly beautiful portrayal of soldiers’ sacrifice to keep Canada free.
