Kindergarten
Welcome to Kindergarten at East Elementary!
Our Program
Children learn by doing, and play is their work. Kindergarten programs not only help prepare children for Grade One but also set a foundation for later school success. In our classrooms, children learn how to interact with others and see themselves as individuals and lifelong learners.
East Elementary Kindergarten follows the Alberta Education’s Kindergarten Statement, providing learner expectations in seven key areas:
- Early Literacy & Early Numeracy
- Citizenship & Identity
- Environment & Community Awareness
- Personal & Social Responsibility
- Physical Skills & Well-Being
- Creative Expression
Class Times: 2026-2027 School Year
East Elementary will operate a Half-Day Kindergarten program for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Hours: 8:25 AM – 11:25 AM
- Schedule: Classes are held on assigned school days (please refer to the 2026-27 Kindergarten Calendar).
This half-day format allows for a focused, high-energy morning of learning, providing children with a gradual and supportive transition into the school environment.
Eligibility & Registration
- Age Requirement: Children may begin Kindergarten in September 2026 if they are 5 years old on or before December 31, 2026.
- Registration: Enrollment for the upcoming school year begins in January 2026. Please contact the school office for the specific opening date.
- Documentation: A copy of the child's birth certificate and proof of residency are required at the time of registration.
Fees & Supplies

Transportation
Kindergarten students follow the regular Black Gold Regional Transportation policy. Please email transportation@blackgold.ca to discuss your specific route options.
What Happens Next?
- Kindergarten Open House: We hold an annual Kindergarten Open House; you will be notified of the date once your registration is processed.
- Teacher Contact: Before the school year begins, your child’s teacher will contact you regarding the "staggered entry" start and specific classroom information.
- Field Trips: Get ready for adventure! We participate in exciting trips to places like Safety City, the Edmonton Zoo, and Devonian Gardens.

We love having parents involved! Whether you are interested in joining the School Council & Parent Association or volunteering in the classroom to help with small groups and field trips, your involvement is greatly appreciated.
